As easy as a good wine – BIM in Cité des civilisations du vin
An exceptional project
The building and civil engineering company VINCI Construction France is part of the consortium working on an impressive project, the Centre of Wine Civilizations (Cité des civilisations du vin). The new attraction is situated in Bordeaux, in south-western France.
“The unique architectural form of this project sets its challenges. Working with building information models is a must to achieve a real understanding and optimal coordination between each actor in the project,” says BIM Engineer Hervé Disclyn from VINCI Construction France.
Each stakeholder of the consortium of companies in charge of the shell and core construction creates their own 3D models. These models are then regularly combined in Tekla BIMsight to form a holistic view of the project. The up-to-date combination model is also shared to everyone working on the project. They can access it using Tekla BIMsight.
The power of easy 3D
“Using 3D models instead of drawings, design coordination and reviews of the construction project with stakeholders are more engaging and discussions more effective. Everyone is talking about the same issues and inconsistencies become more apparent. It really improves overall understanding of the project,” Hervé Disclyn explains.
He sees Tekla BIMsight as an intuitive and user-friendly tool. With it even people without BIM expertise can utilize 3D models without specific training.
At their company, they have also used Tekla BIMsight to present the progress of the project to different stakeholders.
Spreading the word
VINCI Construction France is promoting and spreading the use of Tekla BIMsight in their engineering teams and to their partners.
“We are using and sharing 3D models more and more in various formats. We also hope to have our jobsite workers using Tekla BIMsight in the future on appropriate devices,” states Hervé Disclyn.
