Stay on schedule and budget with BIM as Mota Engil
Mota Engil is renovating a three school area "Freguesia de Nossa senhora da Anunciada" in the Setubal district in Lisbon. During this project Mota Engil is investigating ways of implementing BIM models for management purposes. They want to give the customer updated model information about the project's status. Management concerns for schedule and budget are also crucial given the current economic environment and they want to avoid unnecessary expenditures of the public budget.
Tekla BIMsight in use
The project's goal was to create BIM models for the three school buildings. This methodology added value to the life cycle of the building. These models needed to be exported to Tekla BIMsight to enable easy building management. All models were exported in IFC format and combined into a single project in Tekla BIMsight. Also, Mota Engil manages the building life cycle with Tekla BIMsight by attaching important documents to the models. Building management with the help of a BIM model is a recent and little-explored subject. The starting point for the management, maintenance and operation of the buildings is to have a global view of the building.
Mota Engil finds Tekla BIMsight to be easy-to-use and user friendly and thus helps all project members to join the BIM workflow. Tekla BIMsight enables instant access to organized project information, direct communication between project members and automated detection of construction problems before actual construction.
In this project the contractor found the search and sorting tools in Tekla BIMsight's object browser particularly useful. They also used notes extensively for communication. Mota Engil appreciated that it is possible to tag the notes and link objects to them.
