Assembly Names

Importing a from a Tekla Model (IFC export) the assembly names appear to be missing. Everything is tagged as being either a beam or column. How do we get to use the Tekla Model assembly names?

Hi Luis, Which version of Tekla Structures are you using? At least in the version 14.0 folder C:\TeklaStructures\14.0\environments\country-independent\inp the IFC_properties_sets.inp file can be found. It's also good to keep in mind that there may be some limitations what information can be exported to IFC by using the inp file with earlier versions of Tekla Structures. Thanks, Heikki

Havent confirmed yet but I think if you hover your cursor on the Objects tab the member lits up and if click on it the properties appear including assembly ID. http://www.teklabimsight.com/photo.jsp?key=891078fc-30dc-7335-323d-09ac4000

IFC_properties_sets.inp file defines which attributes will be written to ifc file. See Tekla Structures on line help. Below example to get also assembly name included: ... Tekla_General Assembly_Mark ASSEMBLY_POS STRING Tekla_General Assembly_Name ASSEMBLY.ASSEMBLY_NAME STRING ...

Is there any way that it can be done not only programmers but also standard Tekla users?

I assume that this is in the common folder since there are versions of this file in the usimp and usmet folder as well ??

I tried as suggested by Petri and it had no effect, it still did not bring in Common Name and Name, both are still being displayed as Beam or Column or Plate but we need the Name that used from the beam or column or plate properties when you inquire on it in the model. eg Beam Properties > Name > Moment-Beam eg Column Properties > Name > Post Instead they are coming out as Beam and Column in the ifc file, how do we fix this ???

I need to be able to see the characteristic of beam e.g. B25. Actually I do not see the way to get it. Some TEKLA guys need to answer tis question. Second problem: there are not bolts or, at minimum, holes dispayed. It is very important issue for checking the integrity of the model. How it can be done?

Hi John, As Petri mentioned in Tekla Structures the IFC_properties_sets.inp file defines which attributes will be written to IFC file. For example Assembly or Part positions can be exported to Tekla BIMsight by modifying this file, which can be found on ..\TeklaStructures\"version"\environments\common\inp. For more information see also Tekla Structures online help. Below an example where part mark and also assembly/cast unit position information is included, so you need to add these lines to the file IFC_properties_sets.inp: ..Tekla_General Part_Mark PART_POS STRING.. ..Tekla_General Assembly_Mark ASSEMBLY_POS STRING.. About the second question. You should be able to display the bolts in Tekla BIMsight. This can be done by including the bolts in the IFC export or if you are using Tekla Structures 17.0 you can publish your model directly to Tekla BIMsight. Also in this case you need to remember to include bolts to the published model. BR Heikki

I am missing the assembly and cast unit parameters. It looks like these are not exported at all! In generally it would be great to be more precise about handling assemblies and parts. I am missing a picking filter! Jens

"Name" is both an attribute of part and of assembly. So what now? Names of cast units and assemblies are not exported. Even vor die Position numbers it is not possible to choose one instance of a position!

Hi Jens, Which version of Tekla Structures are you using? Assembly and cast unit parameters should be exported and my and Petri´s previous posts explains how to modify the IFC_properties_sets.inp file. Attached is screenshot on exported parameters and also a picture that shows which lines should exist in this .inp file in order to get these properties displayed. Can you locate that .inp file on your computer? Assemblies and parts can be filtered on the "Objects" pane, see attached screenshot. (You can also type your own filters on this box). Hope this helps!
