You can select objects within an area whose size you determine. You can select objects that are completely within the area or objects that are completely or partially within the area. Area selection also applies to conflict, note and document symbols.

To select objects within an area:

Select objects that are completely within an area

  1. Do one of the following:

    • Go to the View tab and click .

    • Hold down the left mouse button for 0.5 seconds until the pointer changes to this: .

  2. Hold down the left mouse button and drag the mouse from left to right to draw an area.

    All objects that are completely within the area are selected.

Select objects that are completely or partially within an area

  1. Do one of the following:

    • Go to the View tab and click .

    • Hold down the left mouse button for 0.5 seconds until the pointer changes to this: .

  2. Hold down the left mouse button and drag the mouse from right to left to draw an area.

    All objects that are completely or partially within the area are selected.

You can determine how area selection affects the existing object selection. When you draw an area, do one of the following:

  • Hold down the Shift key to add to the selection.

  • Hold down the Ctrl key to remove previously selected objects from the selection and to add previously unselected objects to the selection.

  • Hold down the Ctrl and Shift keys to remove objects from the selection.
